last night was my damn hell birthday

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

xi xi made me a surprise party – most of my friend’s are lame, and didn’t show – but the ones that did are totally awesome

we started out at some party for her work people then we went to the ashland (*ding* *ding* – dead giveaway that sophie was involved in the planning!) but dude at the bar was a fucking weiner schnitzel and would’ve serve me (because, obviously, I’m 20) so we split and went to rose’s which was approximately 100 million times more awesome anyway – see!?

they had a rad jukebox (I played an entire rolling stones greatest hits record along with a bunch of other awesome stuff that was way cooler than the songs that flaiz picked but I can’t give him a hard time since he at least showed up)

also, the bartender was nice to me – instead of not serving me, he gave me a free birthday cocktail (bourbon & 7 – baby!) – then sophie and I played the worst game of pool in the history of drunk people in bars playing pool

adam’s bachelor party

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

last night we went out to slugger’s for adam’s bachelor party – despite warnings from dan and brian, there were no strippers and no double-ended dildos to be seen

I pumped about 40 earth dollars into skee ball and got enough coupons to get me this french tickler

the end of an era

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

it’s official – the Pontiac cafe is closed – it makes me sad since the pontiac is where I did live band karaoke for the first time ever – I did “don’t you forget about me”

we went for the last friday with sophie, the flaizes, xi xi, dan, san-fran-kristin and her boneyard-friend ally – then shasha and ross kelly came too – plus some others

it was awesome – most of the regulars made it out and everyone had a real good time

sophie made out with the bartender and got us lots of free cocktails – then I sang “dancing with myself”

bowling with the flaizes

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

On friday night I went out to orbit room for dinner with dan and shawn bailey and sophie – I like that place and those people

afterwards: bowling with the young mr. and mrs. flaiz – amanda krunchie and jason victory came too (but his photo got fucked up – sorry bro)

I really miss diversey rock & bowl – I hadn’t gone in a long time – I’m glad someone suggested it – afterwards we went to bob inn, but they kicked us out before we could even finish one beck’s tall boy – for shame

when I arrived home, I was greeted by a bunny on my porch

bunny wabbit

I can only assume that one of my neighbors was throwing this away and thought I’d appreciate since I have lots of light-up-christian-holiday-based decorations on my porch – to whomever it was: thanks!

mike & thao’s wedding

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I went to (nora’s cousin) mike and thao’s wedding on saturday – I went with sasha because no one else likes me and we had a great time

me & sasha

it started at like 3 at some church on the south side – it was very irish-catholic complete with a minister guy talking about god all the way down to the sackpipes – then, nora’s mom gave us lousy directions and we got lost and ended up going to wishbone for cocktails and crab cakes – wishbone serves black people food in case you were wondering what it was like – and it has really crazy art work – hopefully sasha’s blog will soon contain a photo of a canine adam & eve (a dalmation and a poodle, respectively) dancing around the tree in the garden of eden

then we went to the reception that was at a vietnamese restaurant – the food was just OK – I didn’t really dig it that much – it was asian to provide balance to the european-ness of the ceremony I think – Mike and Thao are both really awesome and we ended up having a pretty good time even though the DJ totally sucked – the people we sat with at dinner were cool too

mo’ jito!

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I hung out with sara last night – we met up after ASM rehearsal and went to the logan for a few cocktails – on the way home we stopped at pancho’s for (what we hoped would be) an awesome repeat of the last time we went there – it didn’t pan out like that – pancho wasn’t being much of a showman – I asked for a flaming shot and he had the bartender make it – she had trouble lighting it on fire – it finally went, but only for a second or 2 – I slurped it up quickly anyway because it was getting awkward – however, the mojitos, as always, were pretty good

although, I prefer ryan guitar murphy’s mojitos, these ones are real “earthy” – all the ingredients are super fresh which tastes good, but you end up with little pieces of mint and whatnot in your mouth through the straw

then we went to sofie’s house and had a cocktail or 2 but I was beat by this point and went to sleep – now, for some reason I can’t explain, I’m really hungover

anti-scooter road rage #2

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Hi – don’t go looking in the archive for anti-scooter road rage #1 because it’s not there but I’ll tell you the story if you want – I don’t think I had a blog when it happened – either that or I didn’t care – in any case …

today, I was driving to work down milwaukee ave (which I normally don’t do) during rush hour (which I normally don’t do) and I’m crossing this bridge just before grad (going southeast) and this car honks at me – as it’s driving by, I see the dude yelling at me, but the window is closed and I can’t hear him – so I just smile politely and give him the finger – he replies by showing me his finger in the rear view mirror

we pull up to the stop light at grand and milwaukee and, as expected, he stops early and rolls down his window so he’ll have an opportunity to tell me what a horrible person I am …

dude: I almost hit you back there
me: oh ok – I’m glad you didn’t – please try to be more careful
dude: you can’t go switching lanes like that
me: what are you talking about?
dude: you were switching lanes – make up your mind
me: it’s a one-lane street
dude: you were in the bike lane, then you were in the car lane – make up your mind
me: no I wasn’t – first, this isn’t a bike, so it doesn’t go in the bike lane – second, this is milwaukee ave during rush hour the bike lane is full of bikes
dude: yeah you need to watch yourself so when you go home to your gay lover …
me: wait. you can’t think of anything intelligent to say and that makes me gay?! [to his girlfriend, riding shotgun] you picked a real winner here
dude: [taking off his seatbelt] I’ll fuck you up
me: [laughing] whatever buddy – I’m going to work
dude: [messing with his seatbelt to emphasize that he is not only willing, but ready to 'fuck me up'] I’ll fuck you up

at this point his light turns green and cars are honking at him to drive – I’m cackling like the wicked witch of the west and he’s driving away screaming out the window

in happier news, I saw josh cushner last night – it was a good time – josh is a great guy that I know from college – he’s really funny and, I know this is going to sound dorky, kinda inspired me to play the guitar better – I was playing rhythm and not all that good in college and he would bust out this jimmy page blues licks – I think he’d be proud of me – I decided that his solo album should be called “when cush comes to shove” and should feature a photo of him in real americana (springsteen/mellencamp) type garb with his taxi-caster

sofie and x joined us for cocktails at houlihan’s (near his hotel) followed by cocktails inside the hotel – then we scooted home

the bourbon trail continues

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

this week has been pretty damn awesome

monday: return from bourbon trail
tuesday: ASM rehearsal – t’was good to see the guys again
wednesday: james cooked dinner and we all ate and laughed and drank more bourbon
thursday: X and I went to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona

it was good – woody didn’t make an appearance in it – the narrator was just OK – the pacing was … interesting… the story seemed to jump around a lot temporally and the end just appeared out of nowhere – not much conflict-resolution but definitely entertaining – plus the scenery and language were great …

then we went to small bar (on division) and people for more bourbon
friday: X and I went to matchbox for sidecars and then butterfly for sushi – then I went (EXTREMELY) briefly to alfredo’s to meet up with sasha and her friend but I had just missed them, but I found them on the street a few blocks away – Alfredo’s is right next to where I had my first scooter crash – we ended up heading to sasha and ross’ house for a quaint party then tried going to continental which totally sucked so, at like 3AM, we went to the lake and swam – it was pretty awesome – we were at north ave beach – near where the red bull flugtag competition was to be held the next day – we drove scootington through castaways (oops!) and on other parts of the sidewalk that are normally teeming with pedestrians and would’ve gotten kicked out except that we were already leaving
saturday: stayed in bed most of the morning since I was out late but then X and I tried to get to the flugtag competition – after an hour in traffic, we finally arrive and it’s been over for a looong time – so we head back, grab a jimmy john’s and I drop her off to meet up with some friends – on the way home I ran into sara and one of her friend’s – I met sara at Dan’s BBQ a few weeks back – we had some adventures on california ave including, but not limited to, mojitos and flaming shots at pancho’s bar – but we didn’t keep in touch – so I saw her on the street and was like “wasup?” and she and her friend said they were going to take the bus to german-fest and, since adam was there, I decided to go with them – we drove up – I had a huge plastic stein of beer and a brat and took this awesome photo of sara in this hat

unfortunately, I showed adam a website full of people photobombing and now he does that all the time ;)

so, the thing about these hats is that everyone had them – so I asked this one broad where she got hers and she reaches up tentatively to touch the hat – her body language was saying “what hat?” – then goes “I have no idea” – so I ask this other broad and she goes “I found it on the ground over there” – so finally we just asked to borrow that one for this shot since we couldn’t get a straight answer out of any broad regarding the place where one of these hats could be obtained

we hung out in this alley behind a giant inflatable beer (in the background above) – adam’s got a knack for finding cool places away from crowds – he’s also really awesome and he was in a great mood last night which makes him even more awesome – on one of the trips around, I ran into tammy who had to go walk nora’s dog (more on that later) and since I had to leave to meet up with brian at small bar (logan square), I dropped her off at her crib – made it to small bar just long enough to …

  1. start a tab
  2. order a beer
  3. drink said beer
  4. leave without paying said tab

tammy showed up, but I had to roll to meet up with sasha at catwoman’s place – catwoman’s pretty cool but maybe she’s bi-polar or something – sometimes she’s like “hey! great to see you!” and other times it’s like “oh. it’s you.” whatever. plus nora was there and I was like “how come tammy has to walk your dog while you’re at a party?” pretty lame if you ask me – drunk nora is no one’s friend – I stayed there for a while but I wasn’t really feeling it so I absconded with sasha and we went to other sarah’s house which was pretty mellow by the time we got there – X tried to get us all to go to evilolive – we tried but sasha didn’t have an id and there was a cover that no one wanted to pay – we tried sneaking in the back door, not because I wanted to go there, but because I like breaking the rules, but got busted – I’ve never been to that place but after being outside for 2 minutes and seeing the type of people hanging out on the street in front of it, I don’t really ever want to … but I’ll try anything twice. then I went home… and had a crazy dream about a boat.
sunday: slept in until three and now I’m writing this damn blog – I’d like to thank all of my awesome friends for making this week awesome and my boss for not firing me for being a lazy, hungover turd.
